Must は規則・法律等による強い義務を表します。
- You must be there by 8 -> 8時迄にそこにいなくてはいけない
- You must obey the law -> 法律に従わなくてはいけない
- Tax returns must be submitted by April 15 -> 確定申告は4月15日迄に提出されなくてはいけない
- The value must not exceed the limit -> 値は限界値を超えてはならない
Must は「～に違いない」を表します。
- That must be some misunderstanding -> それは何かの誤解に違いない
- There must be some mistake -> 何か間違いがあるに違いない
- He must be the killer -> 彼が殺人犯に違いない
- You must be joking -> あなたは冗談を言っているに違いない、冗談でしょう？
「～だったに違いない」は must have＋過去分詞になります。
- He must have been forgotten about it -> 彼はその事を忘れていたに違いない
- They must have been lost -> 彼等は道に迷ったに違いない
